Please check back soon for upcoming events. Past Events Friday, September 24, 2010 Karen Blixen Museum Rungstedlund, Denmark 12:00-1:00 p.m. Maya Alexandri will be speaking about researching Karen Blixen's life for purposes of writing her fourth novel, The Celebration Husband, which is loosely based on Karen Blixen's experience during World War I. Maya just completed her final edits on the novel at the Karen Blixen Museum in Rungstedlund, Denmark. Maya was inspired by the myth and history behind Karen Blixen's exceptional supply mission across Masailand during WWI. Maya spent more than a year researching Karen Blixen's experience in order to write The Celebration Husband, and her research included living in and traveling around Kenya, including visits to WWI battle sites and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. During her talk, Maya will show pictures from these research trips. Maya's talk will focus on the differences between researching past events in order to find out what happened and establish the facts (history) and researching the past in order to bring a story and its characters to life imaginatively on the page (literature). |
